Start your Memorial Day weekend off right!  Bringing hope, health, safety, and support to child victims of abuse in YOUR community is as easy as lacing up your walking/running shoes! Join us for the 5th Annual Amani Center Race Against Child Abuse, on Saturday, May 25, 2013. With a Half Marathon, 10k, 5k and 1 mile family walk, there’s something for everyone.

All proceeds directly benefit the Amani Center. The Center is a non-profit organization created to assist Columbia County in responding to child abuse through the child forensic interviewing and medical assessment, treatment of children (birth – 18 years) alleged to have been sexually abused, physically abused, emotionally abused, neglected and/or witnessed a violent crime including domestic violence. The Amani Center’s mission is to “minimize trauma to child abuse victims through professional medical

diagnosis and treatment in a secure and child-friendly environment with the goal of preventing child abuse in all forms.

Fighting Child Abuse is an ongoing battle, but you can be part of the solution.

This year we are asking our participants to consider supporting the Amani Center even more through asking your friends/family to sponsor you (the runner/walker) or your race team (you can get a gro

up of friends to do this with you)!  More details and links to register for Race Against Child Abuse fundraising coming soon!

By participating you can make a difference in the life of an abused child.

Event Day Information

We invite the public and all Uberthons previous-events participants to experience this wonderful venue and event.

The morning event is a Half Marathon, 10k, 5k and 1-mile family walk which starts at Columbia View Park in St. Helens, Oregon. Course records for the M-5k, F-5k, M-10k, and F-10k were set in 2012. However, the event is not being run for strictly competition - the event is For Fun, For Competition, and For Fitness. Everyone is in one of these categories, so come and enjoy.

Race Start/Finish -  Strand Street, between Strand and the Columbia River.  Across the street from City Hall (275 Strand St., Saint Helens, OR) and adjacent to the Old Court House (230 Strand Street, Saint Helens, OR).  Find it on our map:  https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msa=0&msid=206818635638736847957.0004d61ba2240fb15c411

Additional Information

Timing equipment - Uberthons is timing the event, and uses Jaquar timing equipment. Overhead RFID antennas capture your time using disposable chips that are fastened to the back of your racing bib. Take the chips home with you - you will not be asked to return the chips. Wear your bib on the upper chest to maximize the chip reads. Chips and timing equipment are manufactured by Innovative Timing Systems - innovativetimingsystems.com. To read about the event timing equipment, go to this link: Best Timing In Oregon and Washington

Valuables – Please do not bring valuables to the venue.  No volunteers will take your possessions; no storage for any article at the event site.

Race course – We have new and improved courses this year!  The courses have been developed, tested and approved by ORRC runners and previous Race Against Child Abuse runners. The entire course is on asphalt or hard-packet gravel. Directional signs are used to guide runners at over 60 points. Two water stations are provided on the course – the first is 1.5 miles and the second is 4.25 miles. Three aid stations are positioned on the course - the first is 3 miles (Pixie Park), the second is 8 miles (Top of Smith Rd./turn around for Half Marathon) and a third is at the finish line. This is a there and back course; therefore, water/aid stations are available on way up and back.  For your safety, bikes or inline skates are NOT allowed on the course the day of the Race. Each mile is clearly marked on the course. The Half Marathon, 10k and 5k courses are there and back courses.  You may run, walk, or bike the course any time prior to the event.

Half Marathon Course: Come see a side of Columbia County you’ve never experienced before. With over 6 miles of back roads and almost 2,200 feet of total elevation gain, this half marathon course is sure to challenge you. The climb up Smith Road is tree-lined (read shade from sun or shelter from rain) and beautiful. This isn’t likely to be a PR course, but the scenic views and challenging hills are sure to provide a unique and awesome experience! Are you up for the challenge?

At least five aid stations will be provided along the route; three will have goodies (gummy bears, fruit, etc.) in addition to water and sports drinks. The course will be open for 3.5 hours (16 min/mile pace). Finish line will be open for 4 hours. Walkers are encouraged to take advantage of the early start option.

10k Course: The 10k course is an out and back that takes you through downtown St. Helens and into Columbia City. There is a short, but steep hill you’ll have the opportunity to conquer twice – as you enter & leave Columbia City. Three aid stations will be provided along the route. In addition to water and sports drinks, the station at the turn around point will also have goodies (gummy bears, fruit, etc.)!

5k Course: The 5k course is fairly flat with some gentle rollers. It’s an out and back through downtown St. Helens. The course takes you past the t-ball park and the middle school. One aid station with water and sports drinks will be provided at the turn around.

1 Mile Family Walk Course: This short course was designed to provide fun for the whole family. Bring your wagon and load up the little kids for a trek around Old Town.
